Set of four cotton Kantha placemats. Machine washable. Color/pattern that is shipped will vary; that's the fun of it! Each one measures approximately 12."'x19.25", though size may vary slightly.
Please note that these are made out of previously loved fabric, so there may be some slight discoloration/fading and small marks on the fabric. All perfectly normal!
Photo shown is of the back of the placemat; they all have the same backing.
Kantha is a type of embroidery craft practiced in South Asia, characterized by repurposing old garments using simple hand stitching. The tradition is hundreds of centuries old.
Bengali women take their discarded cloth scraps and sew them together with a simple running stitch; taking the old and repurposing it into something useful and protective. Far from trend-setting, or even artfulness, kantha was created originally for the most basic and practical purpose: to keep warm.
